Exploring the New World
Episode 1 - We were only dreaming about freedom
Often reduced to its resorts and seaside cocktails, the Dominican Republic hides many other treasures for those who take the time to explore it. Having loved this island since childhood, I rode a small 150cc local motorcycle to discover its roads, culture, and people.
Episode 2 - From Puerto Plata to Punta Rucia
From Cabarete, I head west towards Haiti. I would have liked to cross the border, but the situation in the country has prompted me to stay in the Dominican Republic. I plan to visit the hills of Puerto Plata before trying out some tourist activities. I will then venture off the beaten track, following the coastline to several idyllic beaches as far as Punta Rucia.
Episode 3 - The Conquistadors of Santiago
For my second route heading south on the island, I leave the coast and head inland. My main goal is to meet up with a group of bikers based in Santiago de los Caballeros, the country's second largest city after the capital, Santo Domingo. I leave Cabarete in threatening weather and head for the village of Sabaneta, where I take a mountain road leading to Moca.
Episode 4 - The treasures and troubles of the Samaná Peninsula
I'm starting the last leg of my road trip in the Dominican Republic. The weather decides to make things a little more challenging. Less than two minutes after setting off, I'm caught in my first tropical downpour, which promises a trip where I'll end up completely soaked. No matter, this third itinerary will treat my taste buds in Las Terrenas, introduce me to the Salto El Limón waterfall, the beaches and caves of Las Galeras, a sailing trip to Cayo Levantado, and finally, total relaxation in El Valle.
